About The Garden District

In January 2009 we were admitted into the National Historic Trust’s Main Street program. It is the Main Street Center’s mission to empower people, organizations, and communities to achieve ongoing downtown and neighborhood district revitalization through a comprehensive approach to organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring. Our mission is to establish the Garden District as the heart of the community. As a 501(c)(3) we are working to strengthen and bring cohesion to our district by fostering support through public and private resources with the common goal of rejuvenating and promoting a district that enhances the entire community. To that end we desire to create a lush, native green environment, which promotes the Audubon Park Business District, Leu Gardens, and the local community, while still retaining our unique and funky feel.

Main Street program is a community-driven approach in which local businesses, organizations and individuals partner with the city to revitalize older business districts. There is a focus on community, local involvement, and building on the assets that an area already possesses. Development is incremental, looking towards long-term viability and not short-term quick fixes. Once a community is accepted into the Main Street program both grant money and city and Main Street resources are available to that community.
